Irbid, Jan 5 (Petra) – The Iksab Center for Sustainable Development in Irbid Governorate announced on Sunday the launch of a project titled “Improving Women’s Livelihoods by Enhancing the Economic Efficiency of the Olive Sector in Irbid and Ajloun Governorates,” in partnership with the Jordanian Olive Oil Women’s Network.
Iksab’s Director General Mazen Abu Qamar stated that the project aims to empower women, youth, and their families in the agricultural sector, with a focus on the olive sector due to its vast potential in improving livelihoods and enhancing sustainable development in the targeted areas. He emphasized the importance of supporting vital sectors in Jordan, particularly agriculture.
The Chairwoman of the Jordan Olive Oil Women’s Network, Nihaya Muhaisin, highlighted that the project continues the network’s national efforts to support the olive sector as a key driver of economic and social development. She noted that it seeks to empower women economically and socially by enhancing their skills in production and marketing.
Project Manager Abdul Qader Abu Zubeida explained that the initiative directly addresses the challenges facing women in the targeted regions. He added that the project will focus on strengthening the infrastructure of agricultural associations, developing innovative branding for olive products, and organizing community events to raise awareness of the sector’s significance, including hosting marketing bazaars in the targeted governorates.
The project is expected to have a significant positive impact by providing sustainable employment opportunities for women, improving the quality of olive production, and encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors to ensure the sustainability of activities in this vital sector.
