Public institutions, agencies across Jordan announce readiness to deal with expected weather conditions

Governorates, Feb. 5 (Petra) Public institutions and agencies across Jordan announced their readiness on Wednesday to deal with the expected weather conditions in the coming days.

The Forestry Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture called for activating emergency and operations rooms to receive citizens’ inquiries and complaints. It also urged the formation of specialized technical teams equipped to remove fallen trees and address public safety concerns.

The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) held a meeting at its National Control Center, led by its Director-General Sufian Bataineh and attended by Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Chairman Ziad Saideh, to review the company’s preparedness for the forecasted weather conditions. The company has taken measures to address the expected rise in electricity demand and to ensure a rapid response to any technical failures, guaranteeing an uninterrupted power supply.

The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) announced its heightened readiness to handle weather-related challenges and ensure the safety of visitors and residents. Winter Emergency Room Chief Mohammad Habahbeh stated that PDTRA has taken preventive measures and deployed field teams equipped to handle heavy rainfall and potential snowfall.

The PDTRA urged residents and visitors to follow safety guidelines, avoid flood-prone areas, and remain cautious. It also provided emergency contact numbers for reporting weather-related issues, through the following numbers:

In Karak, the Public Works Directorate activated its emergency room in response to heavy rainfall. Director Ra’ad Suhaimat said preparations included cleaning drainage channels and deploying field teams and machinery to address weather-related incidents.

Meanwhile, Amman Youth Director Anas Qudah inspected the readiness of Amman Youth House as an emergency shelter, ensuring essential supplies are available for stranded individuals.

In Ajloun, Governor Nayef Hidayat, who also chairs the Public Health and Safety Committee, confirmed that local authorities had completed their preparations. During a visit to the Public Works Directorate, he emphasized the importance of coordination among agencies to ensure a swift response.

In Russeifa, the municipality declared a medium-level state of emergency. Mayor Shadi Zeinati confirmed that municipal teams are on standby and coordinating with relevant agencies, with emergency contact numbers made available on social media.

Bani Kenana’s Kufarat Municipality also raised its emergency level, instructing winter emergency teams to be on high alert and ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready for any urgent situation.

The Agriculture Directorate in Irbid’s Koura District advised residents to prepare rainwater collection wells to maximize water harvesting. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Directorate in North Badia urged farmers and livestock owners to take precautions to protect crops and animals from adverse weather.
