Amman, Aug. 3 (Petra) — The General Trade Union of Workers in Public
Services, Liberal Professions, Communications and Information
Technology discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination
with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to address key
challenges facing the domestic work sector and enhance protection for
domestic workers.

According to a union statement issued Monday, the meeting was chaired
by Deputy President Rana Abu Lawha and attended by members of the
union’s Domestic Workers Committee as part of ongoing efforts to
organize the sector and strengthen cooperation with relevant
stakeholders.

The union said the establishment of the Domestic Workers Committee
represents a significant step toward organizing the sector and
increasing workers’ participation in addressing issues that directly
affect them, contributing to a fairer and more sustainable working
environment while reinforcing the union’s role in representing the
sectors under its umbrella.

Union President Khaled Abu Marjoub stressed the importance of
empowering domestic workers to voice their concerns, defend their
rights and contribute to improving working conditions in line with
the principles of decent work, international labour standards and the
right to organize.

He noted that women constitute the majority of the domestic
workforce, underscoring the need to strengthen legal and social
protection for workers in the sector.
