ROHM
Presents World Premiere of Arabic-Language Grand-Opéra “Sindbad The Omani
Sailor”
Muscat,
1 Sep (ONA) — The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) today unveiled details of
its new 2025-2026 season, which features a compelling lineup of performances
and programs. The season places cultural exchange and communication at the
forefront of its mission.
Running
from October 2025 through May 2026, the new season includes more than 50
artistic performances. These include opera, Arab music, orchestral concerts,
ballet, jazz, family shows, and global arts. This diverse program aims to position
the ROHM as a vibrant cultural meeting point where East meets West, heritage
meets modernity, and traditional arts meet innovation.
ROHM
announced that the season will begin with the world premiere of “Sindbad: The
Omani Sailor”, an ambitious new grand-opéra production in collaboration with
Müpa Budapest, marking a milestone in contemporary Arabic-language performance.
This
landmark creation is the first full-scale operatic production conceived as an
authentic ‘Arab opera’, honoring Oman’s cultural heritage while reimagining one
of the Arab world’s most beloved legends.
Composed
and conducted by Egyptian maestro Hisham Gabr, with an original libretto by
acclaimed writer Nader Mohamed Salah El Din, Sindbad transforms the legendary
sailor into an Omani hero. His voyage begins and ends in Oman, unfolding across
its dramatic coastlines, vast deserts, and majestic mountains, deeply rooted in
the nation’s identity.
The
production is directed by Csaba Káel, a leading figure in international arts,
Intendant of MÜPA Budapest, and founder of the Bartók Spring International Art
Week.
