Cairo, Jan. 27, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Energy Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed held talks in Cairo with Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in electricity and renewable energy and accelerating the reconstruction of Sudan’s power network infrastructure in support of the two brotherly countries’ development goals.The discussions focused on developing a technical roadmap for rebuilding and rehabilitating Sudan’s electricity networks and securing sustainable power supply for residential, industrial, and agricultural sectors across the states. The talks also addressed strengthening partnership in training and network rehabilitation, alongside completing the second phase of the Sudan–Egypt electricity interconnection project, Toshka 2 – Wadi Halfa, with a capacity of 300 megawatts.The Sudanese minister praised Egypt’s supportive stance, affirming that the partnership will bolster economic stability and help meet citizens’ energy needs.For his part, the Egyptian minister underscored the depth of Sudanese–Egyptian relations and highlighted the capabilities of Egypt’s electricity and renewable energy sector, citing its expertise in rehabilitation, construction, and knowledge transfer. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan through the provision of power transformers, mobile support units, and the expansion of solar energy projects.BH/BH
