Port Sudan, Feb. 3, 2026 (SUNA) — Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Lieutenant General (Engineer) Ibrahim Jabir, said that what occurred on April 15 constituted a premeditated coup supported by known external actors.Speaking during a briefing for heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations operating in Sudan in Port Sudan on Tuesday, Jabir stressed that the war was not, as portrayed by some, a conflict between two generals. He underscored that there is a single military command, represented by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.Jabir stated that the events amounted to a full-fledged military coup, supported by conclusive evidence, noting that an army unit had been prepared and equipped and then launched coordinated attacks on military command headquarters across several states. He added that the objective of the coup was to engineer demographic change in Sudan with regional backing, asserting that the facts surrounding the matter are evident and leave no room for doubt.Jabir stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces were able to thwart the move within hours and successfully secure a number of their facilities. He further explained that the coup attempt was accompanied by multiple externally programmed wars, including an intensive media campaign that sought to exonerate the leaders of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia through systematic disinformation. This was compounded by economic warfare involving the plundering of banks, vehicles, and citizens’ property, as well as deliberate sabotage through the destruction of bridges, theft of cables, and devastation of infrastructure, in addition to starving civilians by besieging cities.Jabir affirmed that the rebel RSF militia committed major crimes and grave violations of international law against the Sudanese people, stating that citizens suffered immensely and that the violations perpetrated are unprecedented in human history.BH/BH
