TSC Member Ibrahim Jabir Directs Upgrade of Vocational Training Institutes to Lead Urban Development Phase

Khartoum, Jan. 12, 2026 (SUNA) — Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Head of the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for Return to Khartoum State, Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jabir, has directed that vocational training institutes be upgraded to build the capacities of youth and students and graduate qualified, skilled labor capable of leading the country’s urban development phase.Chairing on Monday in Khartoum the 29th meeting of the Higher Committee, attended by several federal ministers and the Wali of Khartoum State, TSC Member Jabir called for developing vocational institutes to support construction and reconstruction efforts and to reduce spending on importing foreign expertise.He further urged the adoption of collective thinking in planning and project management to ensure the participation of all effective sectors and the delivery of tangible impact.The meeting reviewed a report by the Development and Productive Projects Committee in line with a new plan and vision presented by Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Dr. Mua’tasim Ahmed Salih. The plan includes 19 projects targeting eight million citizens—up to 80 percent coverage—aimed at creating employment opportunities in Khartoum State.The meeting also directed the formation of a committee chaired by the Minister of Industry, with the membership of several ministers, the Wali of Khartoum State, the Director General of Police Forces, the Central Bank of Sudan, the Savings Bank, the Khartoum State Ministry of Social Development, and partners from executive directors and employers. The committee will review small projects. A second committee was tasked with assessing the status of vocational training centres and upgrading them to meet labor-market needs and the requirements of the reconstruction phase.Meanwhile, the Development and Productive Projects Committee unveiled models for entrepreneurship initiatives, greenhouses, converting waste dumps into green spaces suitable as neighbourhood recreational areas, mobile restaurants operated from vehicles, and retail outlets.BH/BH
