“At a time when global geopolitics and economics are heavily influenced by President Donald Trump’s vision and his will to keep the United States at the forefront, it is clear that such a reaffirmation sends a powerful message to the world,” Chauprade emphasized.
This should encourage other states to endorse the ongoing momentum recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and to understand that the Kingdom is crucial to the stability of the Maghreb and Western Mediterranean, said Chauprade.
Chauprade noted that yesterday’s reaffirmation by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during the visit of Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to Washington, of Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, in other words, the Moroccanness of the Sahara, is a significant event.”
He recalled that “this recognition was made during Trump’s first term and has now been confirmed at the beginning of his second term.
Two key Security Council members—France and the United States—acknowledge the Moroccan Sahara and view the autonomy plan within that framework as the solution. Chauprade described this momentum as a powerful signal to the world, one that could open the door to new international successes for Morocco on this critical issue.
