New York, Oct. 22 (Petra) The United Nations on Wednesday stressed the significance of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion, which calls for Israel to facilitate humanitarian relief and ensure the protection of UN personnel in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a statement, the UN expressed hope that Israel will comply with the ruling, noting that the decision comes at a time when the organization is doing everything it can to strengthen humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
“The impact of this ruling is crucial for enabling us to respond adequately to the dire conditions still facing Gaza’s residents,” the statement said.
The ICJ issued the advisory opinion, affirming that Israel is obligated under international human rights law to respect, protect, and uphold the human rights of the population in the occupied territories, including the presence and activities of the United Nations, and to cooperate in good faith with the UN, providing all necessary assistance in any measures it undertakes under the UN Charter.
