
Amman, Jan. 22 (Petra) – The President of the University of Jordan (UJ), Nathir Obeidat, participated on Wednesday in the General Assembly Conference of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) held in Islamabad.
During the conference, Obeidat, accompanied by UJ Vice Presidents for Scientific Faculties, Ashraf Abu Karky, and for Humanities Faculties, Nahed Emaish, highlighted UJ’s significant advancements in global academic rankings. He highlighted the institution’s efforts in enhancing education quality and revising academic programs.
Obeidat also outlined a series of initiatives introduced by the UJ to develop student skills, align academic programs with labor market needs, and implement career preparation programs, among other forward-looking measures aimed at achieving a brighter future for the institution.
Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Iqbal Choudhary, commended the UJ’s leading role in attracting ambitious scientists seeking expertise and knowledge. He also praised its success in hosting visiting and honorary professors and its commitment to leveraging international expertise in research, teaching, and innovation.
Choudhary emphasized that UJ’s contributions are vital in transforming ideas into actionable projects that enhance economic growth and knowledge production.

The Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) was established in 1981 during the third session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The President of Pakistan chairs the committee, which is primarily tasked with promoting collaboration among OIC member states in science and technology, enhancing capabilities through training in modern fields, implementing OIC decisions, and developing programs to strengthen the scientific and technological capacities of Islamic countries.
