Amman, Jan 4 (Petra) — The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) will send a team to assess the technical and security condition and logistics at Damascus International Airport to receive international flights, Chief Commissioner/CEO Haitham Misto said Saturday.
CARC is in coordination with the Syrian Aviation Authorityt, Mesto told Petra in an interview, adding that if a response came from the Syrian side, a Jordanian technical team will be sent to assess the technical condition of Damascus Airport, and based on their report, a decision will be taken on the return of Jordanian flights to the Syrian capital.
The return of air traffic to Syria is tied with completion of international aviation requirements to ensure security and safety, he said, adding that CARC is waiting for Damascus Airport’s readiness in order to give the necessary permits to Jordanian aviation companies to operate flights to it.
International aviation requirements apply to all airports in the world without exception, i.e. logistical and technical matters and airspace safety, Misto stressed.
