OPTUN humanitarian coordinator visits Gaza

Amman, Jan. 22 (Petra) – The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), Muhannad Hadi, shared his impressions after visiting Gaza, stating that he felt hope seeing people returning to their homes in the Strip.

In a video posted on the UN News’ X platform, Hadi noted that, for the first time in months, he saw people on the streets beginning to clear the roads and rebuild their lives.

While acknowledging the ongoing hardships, Hadi highlighted the determination of many residents to resume work and rebuild rather than rely solely on aid.

“The needs of women and children I spoke to centered around education, winter blankets, and essential clothing after months of deprivation,” he said.

Hadi affirmed that UNRWA employs approximately 13,000 individuals in Gaza, emphasizing the strong connection between the people of Gaza and UNRWA. “We will remain by their side to help them restore their lives in a better way,” he added.

During his visit, Hadi toured the logistics services center and milling facilities, where operators were eager to resume operations despite challenges such as fuel shortages and a lack of spare parts. He stressed the importance of international media returning to Gaza to provide on-the-ground coverage of the situation.
