Hockey Association Enhances Focus on Age-Group Competitions for 2026/2027 Season

Muscat,
4 Aug 2026 (ONA) —Oman Hockey Association continues its focus on developing the
foundation of the game by expanding age-group competitions as part of its plans
aimed at preparing a promising generation of players.

The
2026/2027 sports season will witness the staging of three competitions for the
cubs, juniors, and youth categories, amid growing participation from clubs
across various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

Thani Saheem Al Waheebi, Acting Secretary-General of Oman Hockey Association,
said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Association’s Board of
Directors’ interest in organizing age-group competitions stems from its
conviction in the importance of building a strong foundation for the game and
creating a generation capable of representing national teams in the future,
noting that these competitions represent a key pillar in the Association’s
strategy to develop Omani hockey.

He
explained that 18 clubs have announced their participation in the Cubs League
(born in 2010/2011 and under), namely: A’Seeb, Salalah, Al Ittihad, Al Amerat,
Al Nahda, Qurayyat, Al Khabourah, Mirbat, Nizwa, Fanja, A’Suwaiq, Al Musannah,
Yanqul, Saham, Oman Club, Al Bashaer, Al Salam, and Majees.

He
added that eight clubs confirmed their participation in the Youth League,
namely: Saham, A’Seeb, Qurayyat, Salalah, Al Ittihad, A’Suwaiq, Al Amerat, and
Al Bashaer, while nine clubs expressed their desire to compete in the Juniors
League, namely: Saham, A’Seeb, Qurayyat, Salalah, Al Ittihad, A’Suwaiq, Al
Musannah, Al Bashaer, and Al Amerat.

He
confirmed that Oman Hockey fields in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, along with the
sports complexes in Sohar in North Al Batinah Governorate and Salalah in Dhofar
Governorate, will host the Association’s competitions during the season,
explaining that the clubs will later receive the bylaws and conditions specific
to all competitions.

He
praised the member clubs’ interaction with Oman Hockey Association’s
competitions across various age categories, emphasizing that this turnout
constitutes an incentive to continue developing age-group competitions. He also
praised the clubs participating with two teams in certain competitions,
considering it an indicator of growing interest in hockey and the expansion of
its player base in most clubs across the Sultanate of Oman.
