Amman, January 25 (Petra) – The Jordanian National Commission for Women held a meeting with the newly restructured Women’s Party Network, which now includes leading female representatives from various political parties.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee explained that the restructuring aims to build bridges of communication and dialogue between different political movements, enhance cooperation in the field of women’s empowerment, and develop the skills of women within parties.
The goal is also to foster an exchange of expertise among female representatives across parties and coordinate efforts on policies and initiatives aimed at advancing women’s rights and increasing their participation in various fields. These efforts align with national priorities as outlined in the visions for political, economic, and administrative modernization, as well as the national strategy for women.
Secretary-General of the Committee, Maha Ali, highlighted the committee’s commitment to strengthening relationships with women in various positions and fields. She emphasized the significance of the restructuring, especially in light of recent political modernization outcomes such as amendments to the election and party laws, which have enabled wider participation for women in political life and helped achieve greater representation in the Lower House of Parliament.
Ali also presented an overview of the committee’s history as the first national body focused on women’s affairs at the Arab level, its mission, and its work. She underscored the importance of the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s draft law, which follows recommendations from the Royal Committee for Modernizing the Political System. The draft law aims to bolster the committee’s institutional framework to support its role in advancing women’s rights and empowering them in all sectors.
During the meeting, the committee team also provided a presentation on the National Strategy for Women in Jordan and its executive plan, along with key initiatives and projects under its framework. The discussion also covered essential statistics regarding women’s participation in various fields and an overview of the achievements of Jordanian women in 2024.
The meeting included an open discussion on the next steps for the network and a joint action plan. Many suggestions were made, including calls for the committee to actively raise awareness about the importance of party membership, organize training courses for women in parties to enhance their skills, and promote the exchange of experiences.
An agreement was reached on a mechanism for the upcoming period, focusing on creating a joint action plan tailored to the interests and priorities of network members. The aim is to empower female party members, enhance their capabilities, and prepare them to assume decision-making positions within parties and run for party lists.
The committee has consistently worked to connect with women across various sectors and established several networks over the years. These include the Knowledge Network for Women in Municipal Councils “Nashmiyyat” (established in 2008), the Anti-Violence Against Women Network “Shamaa” (also in 2008), and the “Together in Decision-Making” alliance, launched in 2023 to enhance women’s participation in decision-making roles within economic sectors.
The restructuring of the Women’s Party Network marks a significant step in furthering cooperation between the committee and female members of political parties, reinforcing efforts for women’s empowerment.
