ACC Issues More Export Certificates in Early 2025, Though Total Value Dips

Amman, May 6 (Petra) – The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) issued a significantly higher number of Certificates of Origin (COs) for goods exported to Arab and international markets during the first four months of 2025, marking a 19.5% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the total declared value of these exports declined.

According to statistical data from the ACC obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), 10,089 COs were issued from January to April 2025, up from 8,440 certificates in the corresponding period of 2024.

Despite the rise in the volume of export documentation, the total value of goods covered by these certificates fell by 9% to JOD 394 million in the first four months of 2025, down from JOD 433 million recorded in the same period last year.

Analysis of export destinations by value shows Iraq leading the list, with JOD 184 million in goods (covered by 1,038 COs). Egypt followed with approximately JOD 29 million (246 COs). Switzerland ranked third at roughly JOD 26 million (from only 8 COs), then Syria with JOD 24 million (1,889 COs), and Saudi Arabia with JOD 22 million (1,583 COs).

These five nations were among the top export markets by both the value and number of certificates issued.

In terms of product categories, re-exported goods of foreign origin accounted for the largest share of export value during the first four months, totaling JOD 204 million. Industrial products followed at JOD 84 million, agricultural products at JOD 41 million, and goods of Arab origin at JOD 28 million, with the remainder attributed to other product types.

A Certificate of Origin is a key document in international trade, certifying that goods in a particular shipment were produced, manufactured, or processed in a specific country.

Customs authorities utilize COs to determine tariff eligibility and verify the provenance of goods.

The Amman Chamber of Commerce issues Certificates of Origin for various goods, including Jordanian agricultural and raw natural resource products, foreign goods being re-exported, and, under specific conditions, foreign goods procured from the local market. It also issues COs for Jordanian industrial products upon exporter request, based on proper documentation.
