Industrial Index Rises by 2.73% in Q1 2025

Amman, May 12 (Petra) – The industrial production index rose to 87.62 points in the first quarter of the year, a 2.73 percent increase compared to 85.29 points recorded during the same period of 2024, according to the Department of Statistics.

The quarterly growth was driven primarily by a 3.20 percent rise in manufacturing output and a 4.97 percent increase in electricity production, it said in a report. However, the extractive industries sector saw an 8.03 percent decline over the same period, it showed.

On a monthly basis, the index for March 2025 rose by 1.73 percent year-on-year, reaching 87.62 points, compared to 86.13 points in March 2024. This growth was supported by a 3.38 percent increase in manufacturing and a 4.02 percent rise in electricity production, despite a significant 23.89 percent drop in extractive industries, according to the report.

Compared to February 2025, the index grew by 0.44 percent, rising from 87.24 to 87.62 points. During this period, the extractive industries sector saw a 9.96 percent increase, while manufacturing was up 0.41 percent. The electricity sector, however, declined by 7.18 percent, the figures showed.
