Hot Air Mass to Raise Temperatures Across Jordan This Weekend

Amman, May 15 (Petra) — Jordan is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures over the coming days as a hot air mass from the Arabian Peninsula moves into the region, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

Weather conditions on Thursday remain mild across most parts of the country, with relatively hot temperatures in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Skies are partly cloudy with some clouds appearing at varying altitudes, while moderate westerly winds are expected to become occasionally active.

On Friday, temperatures are forecast to increase markedly as the Kingdom begins to feel the impact of the advancing hot air mass. The weather will turn relatively hot in most areas and hotter in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. High-altitude clouds are expected, accompanied by light southeasterly winds.

The hot spell is expected to intensify on Saturday as the air mass deepens its hold over the country. Daytime temperatures will climb further, with dry and hot conditions prevailing across much of the Kingdom. The Badia, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba are likely to experience very hot weather. High clouds will continue to appear, and moderate southeasterly winds will at times become active, raising dust in several areas.

By Sunday, the influence of the hot air mass is projected to begin receding. A slight temperature drop is anticipated, though weather conditions will remain relatively hot over the highlands and plains, and hot in the Badia, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. High-altitude clouds are expected to persist, with moderate northwesterly winds occasionally stirring up dust in many regions.

On Thursday, temperatures across the Kingdom will vary significantly by region. In East Amman, highs are expected to reach 25 C with lows around 14 C, while West Amman will see slightly cooler conditions at 23 C during the day and 12 C at night.

The northern highlands will record a high of 20 C and a low of 10 C, and the Sharah highlands are forecast to experience 21 C during the day and 9 C overnight. In the eastern desert (Badia) regions, temperatures will rise to 29 C with lows of 16 C. The plains will see similar conditions to the capital, with highs of 25 C and lows of 14 C.

The northern Jordan Valley is expected to be warmer at 33 C / 17 C, while the southern Jordan Valley will reach 35 C during the day and dip to 22 C at night. The Dead Sea will see highs of 34 C and lows of 21 C, and the Gulf of Aqaba will register similar temperatures at 35 C / 21 C.
