Oman Participates in Regular Session of Arab
Economic, Social Council

Cairo, 3 Sep (ONA)
— The Sultanate of Oman today took part in the 116th regular
session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, held in Cairo at the ministerial
level.

Oman’s delegation at
the meeting was headed by Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

The meeting discussed the report of the
Secretary General of the Arab League on joint Arab economic and social action,
in addition to preparations related to the “economic and social file” that will
be submitted to the 35th Arab submit due to be held in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia.

The agenda of the 116th regular
session of the Arab Economic and Social Council covers various issues, including the discussion of developments in the
Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union; means to expand the
scope of investment among Arab countries; and issues raised by the Arab
Organization for Agricultural Development with respect to a report on the
status of food security in Arab countries.

The session’s agenda also deals with the
follow-up of implementation of different programmes and strategies. These include
the “Arab Programme for Sustainable Food Security”, the “Arab Sustainable
Agricultural Development Strategy 2020-2030”, the “Arab Strategy for
Sustainable Management of Pastoral Resources 2020-2040” and the “Arab Strategy
for Aquaculture 2018-2037”.

The meeting also looked into proposals to
establish a “Council of Arab Ministers of Commerce”, an “Arab Ministerial
Council for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies” and an “Arab
Council for Customs Affairs”.

The ministers also exchanged views about the
functioning of specialized Arab organizations and institutions affiliated to
the Secretariat General of the Arab League.
