
Amman, Sept. 18 (Petra) – The Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Thursday that the total licensed building area in the Kingdom reached 5.58 million square meters in the first seven months of 2025, up from 4.62 million square meters in the same period last year, representing a 21 percent increase.
The number of building permits issued rose to 14,124, compared to 12,614 in the same period of 2024, marking a 12 percent growth.
Monthly, licensed areas increased from 792,000 square meters in June to 809,000 square meters in July, a 2.1 percent rise.
Residential licensed areas stood at 4.31 million square meters, up 16.8 percent from 3.69 million in 2024, while non-residential areas amounted to 1.27 million square meters, up 36.1 percent from 934,000 square meters. Residential purposes accounted for 77.2 percent of total licensed areas, while non-residential accounted for 22.8 percent.
Regionally, the Central Region accounted for 71 percent of the total licensed areas, an increase of 5.3 percent, while the Northern Region accounted for 20 percent, a decrease of 13 percent, and the Southern Region accounted for 9 percent, a decrease of 6.3 percent.
By governorate population, Jerash recorded the highest per capita share of licensed residential areas at 12.7 percent, with 0.487 square meters per person, while Mafraq registered the lowest at 4.2 percent, with 0.161 square meters per person in the first seven months of 2025.
Licensed areas for new buildings and additions constituted 62 percent of the total, at about 3.5 million square meters, compared to 3 million square meters in the same period last year, a 16.7 percent increase. Licensed areas for existing buildings accounted for 38 percent.
