Israeli forces arrest 14 Palestinians in West Bank raids, storm Birzeit University

Ramallah, Sept. 22 (Petra) – Israeli occupation forces on Monday carried out a wide-scale arrest and raid campaign across several parts of the occupied West Bank, detaining 14 Palestinians on allegations they were wanted, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said.

The group said the arrests took place in the governorates of Ramallah, Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm, Hebron and Bethlehem, adding that homes were raided, vandalized and damaged during the operations.

In a separate development, Israeli forces stormed Birzeit University, north of Ramallah, entering the campus from several directions and assaulting members of the university’s security staff, the university said in a statement.

The university reported that troops spread across its courtyards, carried out searches and caused damage inside buildings after detaining campus security staff. It said the army distributed leaflets warning students against involvement in the Islamic Bloc, which Israel claims is affiliated with Hamas.

The troops also raided the Naseeb Shaheen Theatre inside the campus, confiscating artwork related to Gaza, while flying a drone over the university grounds. They seized belongings belonging to students during the operation.

Meanwhile, dozens of Jewish settlers entered the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif through the Moroccan Gate (Bab al-Maghariba) under heavy police protection, performing Talmudic rituals in the mosque’s eastern section, as Israeli forces tightened security measures at the mosque’s gates and across Jerusalem’s Old City.

The Islamic Waqf in occupied Jerusalem said in a statement that extremist settlers staged provocative tours inside the mosque compound.
