
Oman Participates in 42nd Session of
ICAO General Assembly
Montreal, 25 Sep (ONA) — The
Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 42nd Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s General Assembly, in Montreal,
Canada, from 23 September to 3 October 2025. The meeting is being attended by
representatives of 193 countries and 18 international organizations.
Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al
Shamakhi, Transport Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications
and Information Technology, gave a speech in which he highlighted the role of
the civil aviation sector in supporting the national economy and enhancing regional and
international air connectivity.
Al Shamakhi spoke about the Sultanate
of Oman’s advanced results in international safety and security audit programmes.
He explained that Oman had a compliance rate of more than 95 percent (in the programme), thus
boosting its position among the world’s leading countries in this field.
Al Shamakhi affirmed Oman’s keenness
to contest ICAO board membership through 2026, gaining impetus from its active role in
formulating international policies that enhance the safety, security and
sustainability of the civil aviation sector globally.
Represented by the Civil Aviation Authority, the
Sultanate of Oman signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Air Transport
Association (IATA). The MoU seeks to enhance joint cooperation with the IATA in
the field of aviation safety, by adopting the best practices and accredited
international standards.
