Import Price Index Rises by 15.2 Percent

23 Dec 2025 (ONA) — The general index of import prices in the Sultanate of
Oman recorded an increase of 15.2 percent during the third quarter of 2025
compared to the same quarter of 2024, according to data released by the
National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The
statistics explained that the beverages and tobacco group recorded the highest
rate of increase at 34.7 percent, followed by the miscellaneous manufactures
group at 16.1 percent, and the machinery and transport equipment group with an
increase of 12.1 percent.

Prices
also rose for the animal and vegetable oils, fats, and waxes group by 7
percent, and the food and live animals group by 4.8 percent, while the prices
of mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials increased by 1 percent.

In
contrast, the group of inedible raw materials (excluding fuel) witnessed a
decrease of 19.2 percent, followed by chemicals and related materials with a
decline of 6 percent, and manufactured goods classified mainly by material with
a decrease of 5.2 percent.

The
data indicated that, compared to the second quarter of 2025, the general import
price index rose by 8.3 percent. The highest rates of increase were recorded in
the group of inedible raw materials (excluding fuel) at 19.5 percent, followed
by mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials at 12.6 percent, and
beverages and tobacco at 7.6 percent.

Prices
for the food and live animals group also increased by 3.5 percent and animal
and vegetable oils by 3.4 percent, in addition to a slight rise in the
miscellaneous manufactures group by 0.7 percent. Conversely, the chemicals and
related materials group saw a decrease of 11.9 percent, followed by
manufactured goods classified mainly by material at 9.7 percent, and machinery
and transport equipment at 1.7 percent.
