Madrid, March 30 (QNA) – Spain said Monday it will not allow its airspace or military bases to be used for United States operations linked to the ongoing escalation in the Middle East.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles told a press conference that Spain “will not authorize either the use of military bases ​or the use of airspace for actions related ​to the war in Iran,” while noting that exceptions would apply in humanitarian or emergency situations.

The move reinforces an earlier decision by Madrid to deny access to joint US-Spanish military bases for operations connected to the escalation.

Separately, Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said in a radio interview, “This decision is part of the decision already ​made by the Spanish government not to participate in or contribute ‌to ⁠a war which was initiated unilaterally and against international law.”

Last week, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed that Spain had rejected a US request to use its bases in operations against Iran, reiterating Madrid’s commitment to a foreign policy grounded in international legality and de-escalation. (QNA)
