Amman, June 9 (Petra) — The Public Security Directorate (PSD)
spokesperson stated that the Cybercrime Unit has issued a warning
regarding a new fraudulent scheme reported over the past few days.
The unit received several complaints concerning audio and video calls
made via various communication apps, during which callers claimed to
be security officers and requested personal documents, instructing
victims to report to security agencies the following day.

The spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the complaints
revealed a fraudulent method where scammers attempt to gain control
over victims’ personal information and bank accounts. The fraudsters
threaten the victims by claiming legal cases have been filed against
them and demand full personal details before directing them to visit
security departments. Investigations are ongoing to identify the
perpetrators and take appropriate legal action against them.

The PSD urged citizens to exercise caution when receiving calls from
unknown sources and to refrain from engaging with anyone calling
through electronic applications claiming to represent security
agencies. The spokesperson emphasized that official security
authorities do not utilize such methods for investigations or when
summoning individuals.

The public is urged to immediately report any such suspicious calls
to the authorities via the unified emergency number (911), through
the official communication channels of the Cybercrime Unit, or by
visiting the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) offices at the
nearest police station.
