MOECC Opens Applications for Companies to Participate in Refrigerant Gas Reclamation Project
Doha, June 14 (QNA) – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), announced the opening of applications for private sector companies operating in the refrigeration and air conditioning field to benefit from the qualification of a specialized center for the recovery and reclamation of refrigerant gases.
The initiative forms part of Qatar’s commitments under the Montreal Protocol and its national plan for the phased elimination of ozone-depleting substances.
In a statement issued on Sunday, MOECC invited interested companies to submit applications through the designated online platform and complete the required documentation by July 5. The beneficiary company will be selected through a comprehensive technical and administrative evaluation conducted by a specialized committee in coordination with UNIDO.
The ministry said the selection criteria include operational readiness, the quality of infrastructure, technical and marketing plans, and the capacity to manage refrigerant gas recovery and reclamation operations. Applicants will also be assessed on their compliance with safety and quality standards, as well as tracking and documentation systems.
The project aims to establish an integrated national system for managing used refrigerant gases by qualifying a private-sector company to operate an accredited center in line with international environmental and industrial best practices. The ministry said the initiative would help reduce harmful emissions, protect the ozone layer and curb greenhouse-gas emissions.
The ministry added that the initiative promotes the principles of the circular economy by encouraging the recycling and reuse of refrigerant gases rather than their disposal through methods that may harm the environment. It also supports a greater role for the private sector in advancing environmental sustainability goals.
Applications are open to companies holding a valid commercial or industrial license in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector and possessing at least three years of relevant experience. Applicants must submit a comprehensive business plan covering operational and technical aspects, mechanisms for gas collection and recovery, marketing plans, the project’s financial model, performance indicators and risk-management measures.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening partnerships with the private sector and expanding its contribution to sustainable development objectives, in support of Qatar’s efforts to protect the environment and meet its international environmental obligations.
