Cairo, June 15 (Petra) – Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi
on Monday welcomed a US-Iran deal as a positive and key step to
defuse regional tensions and pave the way for enhanced regional and
international security and stability.
He commended mediation by Qatar and Pakistan, as well as all Arab and
international efforts that helped to bridge the gaps and support
diplomatic endeavors that led to the agreement.
These efforts reflect the important role of diplomacy and dialogue in
promoting regional security and stability, he said.
Any final and lasting agreement between the two sides must fully take
into consideration the security interests of Arab states,
particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and help
to boost regional security and stability, respect the sovereignty of
states, and refrain from interfering in their internal affairs, said
Al-Yamahi.
He reiterated that the Arab Parliament supports all peaceful
initiatives and efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogue and
negotiation, based on international law and the UN Charter, to spare
the region from the ravages of conflict and enhance opportunities for
sustainable stability.
