Two Omani Researchers Secure First Place at Sharjah
International Award for Cultural Heritage

Sharjah, 29 Sep 2026 (ONA) — Dr. Huda Mubarak Al Dairi and Dr.
Thuraya Abdullah Al Jabri have won first place at the sixth edition of Sharjah
International Award for Cultural Heritage, in the Studies and Research category
(Arabic section), for their joint research titled: “Sustainability of the
Sidr Tree (Christ’s thorn jujube) in the Sultanate of Oman in Light of
Scientific and Traditional Knowledge Associated with Cultural Heritage.”

The study aims to shed light on the Sidr tree in the Sultanate
of Oman through an approach that integrates cultural heritage with scientific
knowledge, highlighting its environmental, social, and economic value within
Omani society.

The study recommended strengthening efforts to preserve the Sidr
tree and expand its cultivation, particularly near honey apiaries, given its
impact on supporting honey production and improving its quality.

Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage seeks to
safeguard, preserve, and sustain cultural heritage, and is affiliated with Sharjah
Institute for Heritage, a UNESCO Category 2 international centre.
