Islamic Cooperation Organization opposes Israeli control measures in Hebron

Amman, June 17 (Petra) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation
(OIC) warned on Wednesday against Israeli measures to alter the
political, historical, and legal status of Hebron.

It pointed to a recent decision by Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel
Smotrich to revoke the municipality’s authority over the Ibrahimi
Mosque, the Old City, and surrounding areas, as well as to cancel the
Hebron Agreement.

Referencing UN and UNESCO resolutions, the OIC stressed that Israel,
as the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the Palestinian
territories occupied since 1967, including Hebron and its religious,
historical, cultural, and heritage sites.

The organization called on the international community to protect
Hebron’s historical landmarks, which are integral to Palestine and
are listed by UNESCO as endangered World Heritage sites.
