Sack Coach Jamal Sellami After Historic but Short‑Lived World Cup Campaign

6 Jul 2026 (ONA) — The Jordan Football Association has dismissed Moroccan
coach Jamal Sellami following the team’s group‑stage exit at the 2026 World
Cup.
Sellami
took charge in June 2024, succeeding fellow Moroccan Hussein Ammouta, and led
Jordan to their first‑ever World Cup finals, as well as the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup
finals.

President Prince Ali bin Al Hussein thanked Sellami for his efforts and his
role in the historic qualification, the association said.
Jordan
lost 3‑1 to Austria, 2‑1 to Algeria and 3‑1 to Argentina in their three group
matches.
Sellami
becomes the 11th coach to leave his post after the tournament, joining
Uruguay’s Marcelo Bielsa, Scotland’s Steve Clarke, Czech Republic’s Miroslav
Koubek, South Korea’s Hong Myung‑bo, Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, the Netherlands’
Ronald Koeman, Ecuador’s Sebastián Beccacece, Tunisia’s Sabri Lamouchi and his
successor Hervé Renard, and Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, who resigned after
Colombia eliminated his side last Friday.
