Khartoum, 4 August 2026 (SUNA) – Secretary-General of the National Council for Urban Development Engineer Sumaya Omar Jami said the war has had severe impacts on internally displaced persons (IDPs), emphasizing that reconstruction is the foundation for development and post-war recovery. Speaking at the opening of the 15th Session of the National Council for Urban Development in Khartoum, she said the two-day meeting will focus on reconstruction priorities, including damage and needs assessments, urban planning, housing, infrastructure, and the draft National Strategy for the Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons and Comprehensive Sustainable Urban Reconstruction (2026–2036). The session also aims to strengthen coordination between the federal government and the states in planning for post-war reconstruction and sustainable urban development.BH/BH
