Riyadh, August 08 (QNA) – The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the Iranian attack on an Emirati tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement on Saturday, GCC Secretary General, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned in the harshest terms the dangerous Iranian attack targeting a tanker belonging to ADNOC of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
This assault, Albudaiwi added, represents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, as well as a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world’s most vital waterways.
  Moreover, the GCC Secretary General stressed the categorical rejection of any Iranian attempts to convert this vital international waterway into a tool for pressure and threats, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to stop these dangerous attacks, prevent their recurrence, and ensure the freedom and security of maritime navigation in accordance with the principles of international law, the law of the sea, and relevant international resolutions.
  Concluding his statement, he reiterated the GCC’s full and unwavering solidarity with the UAE, standing by its side and supporting all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, property, and interests. (QNA)
