Amman, August 11 (Petra) – The 2026-2029 Economic Modernization
Vision (EMV)’s Executive Program reported progress during the first
half of this year in cutting pollution, managing waste, adapting to
climate change and advancing the circular economy.

Over the past six months, authorities logged 42,078 littering
violations, conducted 1,300 cleanup campaigns, and sorted 1,390 tons
of waste. The government also rolled out a public cleanliness plan to
clear litter from forests, parks, highways, and archeological sites,
supported by educational campaigns on social media.

Recycling operations expanded across several commercial districts in
Amman. In Sweifieh, outreach campaigns reached 246 commercial
establishments alongside tenders to build local recycling banks.
Community engagement campaigns wrapped up across Tla’a Al-Ali, Tariq,
and Ras Al-Ain, marked by the rollout of a pilot waste-sorting
collection system in Ras Al-Ain.

Meanwhile, equipment manufacturing and site preparation began for the
East Amman Transformation Station, and 3,300 waste-sorting bins were
distributed to Al-Wasatiyah Municipality, according to the report.

In Aqaba, foundation work began on the Creative Circular Economy
Center to reduce carbon footprints and improve resource efficiency,
while the newly launched Blue Economy Innovation Center aims to drive
sustainable marine entrepreneurship. Additionally, a tender was
awarded for a boat pier at the Marine Research Center and Aquarium
project, where master planning is complete and structural design is
underway.

To strengthen climate resilience, the program trained 3,722 students
across Karak, Tafileh, and Ma’an on climate adaptation and water
management. Fifty agricultural extension agents received training on
climate-smart farming alongside 80 digital tablets to streamline
field data collection.

In coastal and rural communities, 200 women underwent climate
adaptation training, and 60 officials were trained on weather data
and early warning systems. The Jordan Meteorological Department also
partnered with the UK Met Office to train 20 staff members on
numerical weather prediction.

Community-level resilience measures included simulation exercises in
Ramtha and targeted disaster risk reduction assessments in the Azraq
Refugee Camp.

To position domestic industries for low-carbon exports, the program
delivered technical support and training to industrial firms aiming
to launch sustainable products. Ongoing policy initiatives include
surveying market demand for green products among small and
medium-sized enterprises, reviewing regulatory frameworks for
electric and hybrid vehicle batteries, and drafting legislation to
phase out single-use plastics in favor of sustainable alternatives.
