Muscat, August 12 (QNA) – Oman Environment Authority announced today that oil pollution resulting from the grounding of a vessel near Al Qibliyah Island, part of the Al Hallaniyat Islands archipelago in Dhofar Governorate, could affect up to 40 kilometers of coastline in the Ras Madrakah area.
In a statement, the authority said monitoring results also indicated that the southern beaches of Masirah Island could be affected in the coming hours, potentially along a stretch of 10 to 20 kilometers, based on current data.
It said specialized teams were monitoring and carrying out response operations, taking the necessary measures to contain the spread of the pollution and minimize its potential impact, with priority being given to environmentally sensitive areas.
The authority urged fishermen, visitors to coastal areas and members of the public not to approach any materials or pollutants they encounter and to report them to the relevant authorities. It added that it would continue monitoring developments and announce any updates through official channels. (QNA)
