UN Humanitarian Chief Commends Sudan for Keeping Adré Crossing Open

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem received a phone call from UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher, during which they discussed the humanitarian situation in Sudan and the continued flow of humanitarian assistance through the Adré border crossing. Fletcher expressed appreciation for the Government of Sudan’s understanding of the urgent humanitarian needs in parts of the country and reaffirmed the United Nations’ readiness to coordinate with the government to ensure the continued operation of the crossing. He noted that cooperation between the government and the UN Resident Coordinator is progressing well. Salem reaffirmed the government’s readiness to maintain cooperation with UN agencies, stressing the importance of the Adré crossing in delivering humanitarian assistance to people in need. The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and meet in New York on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.BH/BH
