Oman Senior Basketball Team to
Participate in Asian Qualifiers
Muscat, 18 Aug 2026 (ONA) — Oman
senior basketball team will take part in the preliminary qualifiers for the
2029 FIBA Asia Cup (Window 1), scheduled to be held from 24 to 31 August in Dubai,
the United Arab Emirates.
The national team will compete in
the qualifying tournament as part of Group 1 of the West Asia region, which
also includes the national teams of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait,
and Nepal.
The competition will follow a
single-round robin format, with each team playing four matches within the
designated international window for the first stage. The group holds particular
significance as it brings together five teams vying for three qualification
berths to the second round of the preliminary qualifiers, as the tournament
regulations stipulate that the top three finishers from each group advance to
the next stage.
The participation will be
preceded by an external training camp in Dubai scheduled from 16 to 24 August.
This camp serves as an extension of the domestic preparatory phase, during
which the technical staff focused on enhancing the physical and technical
readiness of the players, as well as strengthening team cohesion and collective
tactical execution in line with the intensity of the upcoming competitions.
The camp programme includes a
number of friendly preparatory matches designed to assess the technical and
physical levels of the selected players, evaluate overall readiness, and
implement tactical plans in order to determine the optimal lineup ahead of the
official competitions.
