Amman, August 30 (Petra) – Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei said
Sunday that His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to China was a
success that gave strong momentum to Jordanian-Chinese relations and
opened a new chapter in the strategic partnership between the two
countries.

Speaking at a press conference, Guo said the visit, the King’s first
to China in 11 years and ninth overall, came at an important juncture
in bilateral relations.

He noted that talks between King Abdullah and Chinese President Xi
Jinping outlined a shared vision for advancing the strategic
partnership, particularly as the two countries prepare to mark the
50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.

The ambassador said China and Jordan reaffirmed their mutual support
on issues of core interest, with Beijing expressing its support for
Jordan’s sovereignty, security and development, as well as the
Hashemite custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in
Jerusalem.

Jordan, in turn, reaffirmed its adherence to the One China principle.

On economic cooperation, Guo said the King placed particular emphasis
during the visit on expanding trade and investment and exploring
areas of common interest.

His Majesty visited Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, where he reviewed
developments in manufacturing, robotics, drones, medicine,
agriculture, tourism, science and technology, education and culture
and met with representatives of leading Chinese companies.

He said President Xi called for stronger cooperation in traditional
sectors, including trade, infrastructure, transport and mining, while
expanding into the digital economy, artificial intelligence and green
energy.

The two sides agreed to work toward establishing direct flights
between Jordan and China.

The ambassador said 25 cooperation agreements were reached during the
visit, including 10 signed by the two leaders, covering diplomacy,
e-commerce, industrial and supply chains, digital economy,
development cooperation, media, judiciary, film production, human
resources and civil aviation.

He said the agreements are expected to help increase Jordanian
exports to China, attract Chinese investment and expand cooperation
in advanced technologies by capitalising on Jordan’s strategic
location and human resources.

Regarding Palestine, Guo said the issue was a key focus of
discussions between King Abdullah and President Xi.

He noted China’s support for a political settlement based on the
two-state solution, Palestinian self-governance, the protection of
civilians and delivery of humanitarian aid and a comprehensive and
just solution based on international law.

He said the two sides commended Jordan’s humanitarian role in
delivering aid to Gaza and highlighted the importance of the
Jordanian land corridor.

They called for preserving the unity of the occupied West Bank and
Gaza, supporting the Palestinian National Authority’s role in Gaza
and maintaining support for UNRWA.

Guo added that both sides expressed concern over Israeli escalation
in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem and rejected measures
aimed at annexing occupied Palestinian territory.

On regional developments, he said China supports ceasefires, the
peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for the sovereignty and
security of countries in the region.

He urged maintaining freedom of navigation through the Strait of
Hormuz.

The ambassador said China is ready to strengthen coordination with
Jordan within the United Nations and other multilateral organisations
and cooperate on implementing the Four Global Initiatives.

Concluding his remarks, Guo said China is ready to work closely with
Jordan to implement the agreements reached by the two countries’
leaders, strengthen strategic trust and mutually beneficial
cooperation and advance bilateral relations while contributing to
peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
