Electricity Production in Oman Increases by 4.5%

Muscat,
30 Aug 2026 (ONA) — Total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman
increased by 4.5 percent by the end of July 2026 to reach 31,732.5 gigawatt
hours, compared to 30,354.6 gigawatt hours during the corresponding period of
2025, according to the latest preliminary data issued by the National Centre
for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Statistics
showed that Muscat Governorate recorded the highest growth rate in total
electricity production at 197.4 percent, followed by A’Dakhiliyah Governorate
at 41.8 percent, Dhofar Governorate at 5.4 percent, Al Wusta Governorate at 8
percent, and the Governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and A’Dhahirah
at 5.6 percent.

Conversely,
total electricity production decreased in the Governorates of North A’Sharqiyah
and South A’Sharqiyah by 15.1 percent, and in Musandam Governorate by 2.8
percent.

Regarding
net electricity production—which includes purchases by Oman Power and Water
Procurement Company and purchases by the Rural Areas Electricity Company
according to regions—data clarified that it rose by 4.9 percent by the end of
July 2026, reaching 30,866.7 gigawatt hours compared to 29,421.5 gigawatt hours
during the corresponding period of 2025.

Muscat
Governorate recorded the highest growth rate in net electricity production,
reaching 197 percent, followed by A’Dakhiliyah Governorate at 42 percent,
Dhofar Governorate at 8.8 percent, Al Wusta Governorate at 8.7 percent, and the
Governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and A’Dhahirah at 5.5
percent.

In
contrast, net electricity production declined in the Governorates of North A’Sharqiyah
and South A’Sharqiyah by 15.3 percent, and in Musandam Governorate by 2.8
percent.

In
the water field, total production decreased by 3.2 percent by the end of July
2026 to reach 287,484.3 thousand cubic meters, compared to 296,874.8 thousand
cubic meters during the corresponding period of 2025.

At
the governorate level, water production in Muscat Governorate decreased by 5.9
percent, dropping from 118,160 thousand cubic meters by the end of July 2025 to
111,241 thousand cubic meters by the end of July 2026.

Water
production in other governorates also dropped by 3 percent to reach 130,536.1
thousand cubic meters, compared to 134,613 thousand cubic meters during the
corresponding period of 2025.

On
the other hand, water production in Dhofar Governorate rose by 3.6 percent to
reach 45,707.1 thousand cubic meters during the period from January to July
2026, compared to 44,101.8 thousand cubic meters during the corresponding
period of 2025.
