Minister of Agriculture Undersecretary Discusses Support for Local Production and Food Security with WFP

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Dr. Fatima Mohamed Ahmed, held talks in Khartoum on Sunday with Karl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), on ways to strengthen cooperation in food security, the provision of agricultural inputs and support for local production. The meeting, attended by WFP Country Director Abdullah Al-Wardat, discussed joint projects and priority programmes aimed at enabling the agricultural sector to address current challenges and achieve food security. The Undersecretary commended the WFP’s efforts in implementing joint programmes and stressed the importance of training and capacity building, establishing a food security database, and implementing a digital transformation strategy in partnership with the private sector and organizations. Skau, for his part, affirmed the WFP’s readiness to support capacity building and focus on productive projects in the states, stressing the need to activate joint committees and develop a clear cooperation strategy. The two sides agreed to continue coordination on supporting small-scale producers, rehabilitating irrigation projects, localizing seed production, and strengthening value chains and local production.BH/BH
