Ukraine Seeks to Procure Around
1,000 Patriot Missiles

Kyiv, 9 Sep 2026 (ONA) — Ukrainian
Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara has announced that his country is seeking to
secure contracts for the supply of roughly 1,000 missiles for US‑designed
Patriot air defence systems, with the backing of its allies and through an EU
loan.

Speaking at a meeting of the Ukraine
Defense Contact Group, Khmara said most of the missiles would not be delivered
for several years, and reiterated calls for urgent assistance.

Ukraine is asking Western partners
to provide more air defence missiles from their stockpiles in exchange for
improved missile performance under contracts signed with Kyiv, he said, adding
that Kyiv is facing obstacles due to a $27 billion funding gap for drone
supplies.

Russia has resumed its drone and
missile attacks on Kyiv after a brief pause during the visit of US negotiators
to both countries.
