Disi Camel Racing Track Undergoes Upgrade to Host More Events

Aqaba, Oct. 1 (Petra) — Work is underway to upgrade the camel racing
track in Disi village, with the project designed to improve the
venue’s capacity to host local and international races, championships
and heritage events.

Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Chief Commissioner
Shadi Ramzi Majali and members of the Board of Commissioners
inspected the project during a field visit, reviewing construction
progress and improvements to the track’s facilities.

Disi District Director Mohammad Shawish and Disi Mayor Harb Oweidat
joined the visit.

The Board said the development is intended to raise the track’s
readiness for future competitions while strengthening Disi’s position
as a destination for traditional sports and heritage tourism.

Upgrading the facility is also expected to support tourism and
economic activity in the area and provide benefits to the local
community by attracting more sporting and heritage events.

The track has hosted several local and international camel racing
competitions in recent years, becoming an established venue for the
traditional sport in the region.

ASEZA said developing its facilities and equipment would help
preserve camel racing as part of the area’s sporting heritage while
expanding the track’s ability to host events at both the local and
international levels.
