Amman, Oct. 1 (Petra) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr.
Saleh Kharabsheh said local industries are an “integral part of the
Kingdom’s progress.”
Kharabsheh underscored the need to continue supporting Jordanian
products to achieve development goals, meet needs, and boost
employment opportunities for Jordanians.
During an inspection tour of the National Electrical Industry (NEI)
on Thursday, he noted that the government “prioritizes” supporting
local products and strengthening national industry by ensuring
presence of Jordan-made products in public projects and opening
“broader” avenues for partnership with industrialists.
He added that this approach aims to enhance the industrial sector’s
contribution to implementing development projects and supporting the
national economy.
During the tour, Kharabsheh checked on the production lines and the
lighting units manufactured by the plant, reviewing their technical
specifications and energy-efficiency priviliges.
He was also briefed on the production stages, testing and assessment
mechanisms, the characteristics of the energy-saving LED units, and
the approved technical specifications used during their manufacturing
processes.
The visit falls within the framework of monitoring the “Replacement
of Lighting Units with Energy-Saving LED Units” project.
Launched by the Ministry, funded by the Rural Electrification Fund
(Fils Al Reef) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Local
Administration and municipalities, the project covered the
governorates of Mafraq, Ajloun, and Jerash, as approximately 140,000
lighting units installed in the Kingdom’s Northern Region.
The minister also inspected the lighting units delivered for the
project, which had passed field testing and assessment, in accordance
with approved technical specifications and requirements.
In this context, he was briefed on the test results and the
procedures followed to verify the lamps’ quality and efficiency.
The visit aims to assess capabilities of the local industry in
manufacturing lighting units and evaluate readiness of national
products to contribute to energy efficiency projects in the Kingdom.
Established in 1984, National Electrical Industry was operates in
the field of manufacturing lighting units and accessories, and
contributes to supplying lighting projects with locally manufactured
products.
