Occupation Destroyed 82 Percent of Buildings in Gaza Strip
Gaza,
5 Oct 2026 (ONA) — Data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics
showed that some 201,290 buildings in the Gaza Strip have been damaged by the
Israeli aggression from 7 October 2023 until 16 June 2026, equivalent to about
82 percent of the total buildings in the Strip.
The
Bureau explained, in a statement marking World Habitat Day and Arab Housing
Day, that the latest satellite assessment prepared by the United Nations
Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) showed the complete destruction of some 134,422
buildings, while 13,848 buildings sustained severe damage.
It
noted that the number of damaged housing units in the Gaza Strip reached
approximately 328,627, amid continued displacement and the worsening of the
population’s housing and humanitarian needs.
The
Bureau affirmed that the reality of Palestinian housing faces unprecedented
challenges, as a result of the widespread destruction that has affected homes
and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, alongside the continuation of home
demolitions and forced displacement in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
It
explained that World Habitat Day, which falls on the first Monday of October
each year, comes this year under the theme “Adequate Housing for
All,” to affirm the importance of providing safe, adequate and affordable
housing, alongside basic services.
The
Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics stressed the need for an integrated
humanitarian and developmental response to address the housing crisis in
Palestine, given the scale of destruction and the population’s growing needs,
particularly in the Gaza Strip.
