Islamabad, October 06 (QNA) – Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres called on all parties to the Middle East crisis to end the conflict, return to diplomacy, and fully restore navigational rights and freedoms, in accordance with international law.
In press remarks during his visit to Pakistan on Tuesday, Guterres contended that peace in the region would never happen unless the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination is thoroughly achieved, a principle that Pakistan has always been defending.
Guterres hoped that he would see peace and prosperity thrive in this region, grounded in dialogue and cooperation, noting that Pakistan has opened its doors for decades to millions of Afghan people who fled conflict and instability.
The United Nations is committed to working with Pakistan to support the principle of protection and ensure that Afghan people return voluntarily and securely, with dignity, he said.
The Secretary-General’s last visit to Pakistan was in 2022, following the devastating floods that swept across the country. (QNA)
