Oman Hosts 8th Meeting of
ICAO’s Safety Enhancement Group, NCMC Meetings
Muscat, 11 October 2026 (ONA) — Represented
by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Sultanate of Oman is hosting the 8th
meeting of the Safety
Enhancement Implementation Group (SEIG/8) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as the meetings of the “National Continuous Monitoring
Coordinators (NCMC)”. The meetings are being held in Muscat from 11 to 13 October
2026, in cooperation with the ICAO Middle East’s regional office.
The meetings are attended by
representatives of Oman, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the Republic of Sudan, the
Arab Republic of Egypt, Libya, the Lebanese Republic, the Syrian Arab Republic,
the Republic of Yemen, the Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, in addition to representatives of the ICAO and the International Air
Transport Association (IATA).
The participants will discuss topics
related to aviation safety and priorities in the Middle East region. They will
also follow up the outcomes and decisions of the 13th meeting of the Middle
East Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG-MID) and review the progress made in
the implementation of safety enhancement initiatives that were outlined in the
Middle East Aviation Safety Plan for the 2026–2028 period.
The meetings also deal with developing
and implementing national aviation safety plans and State Safety Programmes
(SSPs), as well as updates on the “Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA)” within
the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP).
In addition, the sessions will look
into the experiences of national continuous monitoring coordinators from the
countries taking part in the meetings, as well as related challenges and future
work programme for enhancing aviation safety at the regional level.
