AMMAN, Oct. 26 (Petra) – Jordan and Uzbekistan intend to sign a
Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to serve as a practical framework
for boosting bilateral trade and joint investments, Uzbek Minister of
Investment, Industry, and Trade Laziz Kudratov announced on Monday.
Speaking at a meeting with industrial sector representatives at the
Amman Chamber of Industry, Kudratov explained that the agreement will
cover 300 goods–150 items from each country–that will benefit from
preferential treatment and reduced customs duties in both markets in
accordance with the terms of the accord.
Kudratov emphasized that the agreement will establish a foundation
for expanding trade volume, developing industrial and investment
partnerships, and opening new avenues for Jordanian and Uzbek
companies to leverage commercial opportunities in both countries.
The Minister noted that the PTA reflects the political commitment of
both nations’ leaderships to build sustainable economic and trade
relations. He added that both governments are working to foster a
business-friendly environment and deepen ties between their
respective business communities to translate available opportunities
into joint ventures and productive partnerships.
Looking ahead, Kudratov highlighted that the upcoming period will
feature bilateral meetings, a business forum, and a joint trade
exhibition involving more than 100 representatives of Uzbek companies
to explore cooperation and identify priority sectors.
He concluded that the forthcoming agreement represents a strategic
opportunity to enhance the presence of Jordanian products in the
Uzbek market while allowing Uzbek exports to access the Jordanian
market, thereby expanding overall economic cooperation between the
two nations.
