Washington, 25 October 2026 (ONA)
— The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center in Washington recently organized a lecture
titled “Oman: A Legacy of Dialogue and Tolerance”. The lecture highlighted the
Sultanate of Oman’s steadfast commitment to the promotion of religious
tolerance, intercultural understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The lecture was held under the
patronage of Talal bin Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman
to the United States. It was attended by officials from the White House and
Congress, researchers from various think tanks, members of the media and
diplomats.
Counselor Sabra bint Ahmed Al Hooti, Deputy
Chief of Mission at the Omani Embassy in Washington, spoke about “Muscat
Action Plan” that was launched at the United Nations’ headquarters in New
York on 11 June 2026. She pointed out that this initiative reflects the
Sultanate of Oman’s ongoing commitment to foster dialogue, strengthen mutual
respect and support peaceful coexistence among different religious and cultural
communities.
Meanwhile, Dr. Timothy Gianotti, a
scholar specialized in Islamic studies, explored the role of Islamic teachings
in promoting diversity, encouraging mutual respect and enhancing understanding
among individuals and communities from different religious and cultural
backgrounds.
Dr. Timothy outlined the
contributions of Islamic thought and spirituality to the consolidation of ‘interfaith understanding’. He explained how religious teachings can help foster respect for diversity and contribute to the establishment of more inclusive and peaceful
societies.
The lecture was held in pursuance of the
Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center’s efforts to fulfill its mission of promoting
cultural exchange and mutual understanding, while at the same time cementing the bonds of friendship and communication between the Sultanate of Oman and the
United States of America.
