Santiago, July 22 (QNA) Thirteen people were killed due to torrential rains across various parts of Chile, which have also left seven others missing.
Local authorities said that the storms swept through the central region of the country, extending southward, causing widespread flooding, road closures, and damage to numerous homes.
Head of Chile’s emergency office, Alicia Cebrian, said that the rains of the past few days have weakened waterways, streams, and riverbanks, and the risk of rising water levels in some areas remains.
She noted that 2,281 people have been displaced due to heavy rains, 81 homes were destroyed, and 2,761 homes have suffered severe damage. Additionally, 87,000 people remain without electricity, while classes were suspended in schools in several municipalities across four regions. (QNA)
