Port Vila, March 31 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean Tuesday.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 14.9 km and 42 km northeast of Luganville.
In December 2025, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, killing 14 people and damaging commercial buildings, embassies and a hospital.
Vanuatu, an archipelago of volcanic origin in the South Pacific Ocean, is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet, and the friction between them leads to seismic activity. (QNA)
