Irbid, June 22 (Petra) – Irbid Agriculture Directorate delivered 61 rainwater harvesting wells to villages and towns west of Irbid governorate.
In a statement to “Petra,” Dr. Ahmad Maabreh, Irbid Governorate Council member, said these wells, which cost approximately JD92,000, are funded equally in cooperation with Ministry of Agriculture.
Maabreh noted these enterprises aim to enhance water supplies for farmers in the northern governorate and optimally harness rainwater quantities for agriculture and domestic use.
Maabreh indicated that each water well within this large project has a capacity of 30 cubic meters and costs JD1,500 per structure.
On eligibility, he said applicants are selected based on specific conditions and criteria, aimed at serving efforts to provide “practical and sustainable” solutions to agricultural and water challenges.
Maabreh stated these wells, which are being constructed across Irbid’s various districts, are used to collect and store rainwater to secure quantities under necessary circumstances.
This effort, he noted, contributes to combating climate change, preserving water resources, and reducing reliance on traditional water network sources.
