Aqaba, May 21 (Petra) – During a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, Aqaba Chamber of Commerce (ACC) discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and the key challenges facing importers from China via Aqaba.

According to an ACC statement, the discussions addressed facilitating procedures for issuing entry visas for Jordanian traders for travelling to China, stressing the need to coordinate with the Economic and Commercial Department at the Chinese Embassy in this regard.

During the meeting held at ACC’s headquarters, the chamber stressed the importance of the participation of investors and traders in Aqaba in exhibitions held in China.

The chamber called for reviving the permanent exhibition of Chinese products in Jordan, which serves the trade sector and contributes to strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a “regional trade hub” for the region’s countries.

Meanwhile, the envoy said the embassy will publish details of the new facilitations approved by the Chinese government for issuing visit visas to traders and business owners on its official website.

The diplomat noted the embassy’s Economic and Commercial Department will cooperate with the ACC to facilitate visa procedures by accrediting the chamber’s letters of recommendation for its members to travel to China to follow up their business.

Chuandong stated the Chinese government, in coordination with its shipping and maritime companies, will work to reduce shipping prices “as much as possible” to cover operational costs and remove any obstacles impeding movement of freight to and from China.

Expressing his country’s welcome to import more Jordanian products, he said Beijing also seeks to boost volume of Chinese investments in the Kingdom, viewing Jordan a “strategic” gateway to Arab markets.
